Watershed Geology Lab
Survey of November 7, 2008 (D. Smith & Geomorphic Systems)
Geomorphic Systems is an upper division course in the Environmental Science, Technology, and Policy major at CSU-Monterey Bay. The students collected four kinds of base-line data in advance of the Winter 08-09 storms and episodic coastal retreat. Subsequent surveys will evaluate change and the processes of geomorphic change.
This survey included:
- Total Station survey of the break in slope where the seacliff sand apron meets the beach.
- Rotating Laser profiles that cross the beach from the sand apron to the swash. These are tied at one end to the total-station survey, and are perpendicular to the seacliff
- Grain-size analysis along to of the rotating laser transects
- Photo monitoring
