Post-Master Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) in School Social Work, Child Welfare and Attendance Authorization (CWA)

The Department of Social Work's Post-Master Credential in School Social Work is designed for social workers seeking advanced credentials in Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) and/or Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA).  

Application is now open and closes on June 15th, 2026.  Apply at CalState Apply. Applicants will be notified of their admission status in early July.

Application Requirements:

  • Two letters of recommendation.  It is recommended, but not required, that one of the letters be written by an individual who holds an MSW with a PPS Credential / Child Welfare and Attendance Authorization.

Post-Master FAQs

  • The Post-Masters PPSC / CWA pathway takes one academic year to complete. 
  • Start and end dates align with the University’s academic calendar, with Post-Master students starting in the Fall semester.

Classes are offered in the following time blocks:

  • 4:00 pm - 6:50 pm
  • 7:00 pm - 9:50 pm

Currently, the Post-Master PPSC / CWA is solely in-person.

  • Two semesters
  • Three classes per semester, for a total of 18 units
  • Internship 
  • All curriculum is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and has been formally reviewed/approved by the University’s Curriculum Committee process.
  • The Post-Master PPSC / CWA pathway takes one academic year to complete.
  • Post-Master students will need to enroll in three specific courses each semester to remain on track to complete the pathway in one academic year.
  • Yes, your internship must be completed in a school setting. 
    • Hours with two different age groups
    • 450 hours for PPSC 
    • 150 hours for CWA
