MA + Educational Administration and Preliminary Administrative Credential

Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Education Program, which has an emphasis in Educational Administration and Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, prepares educational leaders with the skills, knowledge, and dispositions to efficiently and effectively lead educational organizations in today's complex and evolving social, political and economic environment. Program has a fall start. The Department of Education and Leadership offers two options leading to the California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. Part time enrollment is optional with advisor consultation. Fully online program option is available.

Options

Option 1: Allows students to earn a MA degree with an emphasis in Educational Administration and complete coursework required for the Preliminary Administrative Services credential. 

Option 2: Allows candidates to complete the credential only for those who already hold a master's degree.

Admissions Requirements:

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Interview
  • Professional Goal Statement
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Meet or have met the California Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST or equivalent)
  • Valid Pre-requisite credential.  Any one of the following may satisfy this requirement: 
    • A Clear or life California teaching credential that requires a baccalaureate degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching or the equivalent, and holds an English learner authorization; or
    • A Clear or life California designated subjects teaching credential in adult education, career technical education, vocational education or special subjects, provided the applicant also possesses a baccalaureate degree, and holds an English learner authorization; or
    • A Clear or life California services credential in pupil personnel services, health services for school nurse, teacher librarian services, or speech-language pathology or clinical or rehabilitative services requiring a baccalaureate degree and a program of professional preparation, including field work or the equivalent.
