College of Health Sciences and Human Services

Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the study of human movement

The Kinesiology major develops comprehensive expertise in the human body's development and functions, the roles of physical movement in growth and learning, and the methods for improving and maintaining a high quality of life and personal wellness at every age.

Graduates use expertise in exercise, behavior change, and wellness to improve the health and well being of people in the community by going into professions such as physical therapy, personal training, and worksite health promotion.

Our graduates have gone on to a range of pathways after CSUMB, such as opening their own training facilities, getting graduate degrees in Physical/Occupational Therapy, Athletic Training, Prosthetics & Orthotics, and other fields, and even working for NASA!

Why Join CSUMB's KIN Program?

Beyond a rigorous academic curriculum, we provide lots of hands-on opportunities to prepare you for many career paths, such as:

  • 3 credit internship course: get 120 hours of work experience at Physical and Occupational Therapy, Cardiac Rehab, Strength and Conditioning, Corporate and Commercial Fitness, and more sites across the Monterey peninsula
  • Exercise Is Medicine On Campus: get hands on experience with programs and client interactions right here on campus
  • Kinesiology Service Learning: a 30 hour immersive community experience where students are partnered with organizations serving diverse populations in Monterey County.
  • Undergraduate Research: get hands on experience and skills working side by side with your professors on data collection, analysis, running interventions, and presenting at conferences
  • Practical courses like Exercise Science Lab and Techniques in Strength and Conditioning

Outside of the program, we also have strong relationships with CSUMB's NCAA Division II athletic teams, and lots of our students get hours working with their Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning staff
