AES Staff Keeps AES Department Running Smoothly
Michelle joined the CSUMB community in 2022 and is a valued member of our administrative staff as our Administrative Support Coordinator (ASC) II. Michelle supports students and faculty by assisting with all department administrative matters, including travel paperwork, grant support, and supporting classes. Outside of her work as an ASC, Michelle can be found traveling, hiking, or getting lost in a good book.
We recently touched base with Michelle to learn more about what led her to CSUMB and her career. Check out her interview below!
What do you do within the AES Department?
I am the administrative support coordinator.
What led you to CSUMB?
Honestly, the retirement perks and flexibility that come along with working for a CSU. I had to make a decision about my career path for my family, and it has proven to be the best decision I could have made.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I enjoy working with the staff and faculty in the AES department to help support classes and grant research. I enjoy working in the background and supporting events and programs to help make sure they are successful and as seamless as possible.
What is your educational/professional background?
Coming to CSUMB starts my 3rd career path. I have been a Youth Director for a church, Director of Operations and Risk Management for a linen company, and now my 3rd (and I hope final) path here at CSUMB.
My educational background is in Business Analytics. I love numbers and spreadsheets!
What hobbies do you like to participate in during your free time?
Is travel a hobby? I really enjoy traveling. In the last few years, my daughter, who is 7 years old, and I have been to 5 different countries. My hope is to show her much of the world, as we can see before she goes away to college.
When I am not jumping on a flight and exploring, you can find me hiking, reading (mostly fantasy-type books), and running (collecting running medals has been a fun hobby).
What is your favorite part of CSUMB?
The view from my office on the 3rd floor! If you haven't been up to the AES office you should come visit. We can see all the way to the bay from up here.
Anything else you'd like to share.
Remember, University life can be hard and stressful, but make sure to take time out to breathe and enjoy where you are in the moment - Because you will never get that moment back.
Thank you for all that you do for our students, staff, faculty, and department! We truly appreciate it!
