Message from Interim Dean Thomas Horvath

Interim Dean Thomas Horvath - COS

"It is my pleasure to welcome you and thank you for taking the time to explore the College of Science (COS) at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB). As the largest college at CSUMB, the College of Science houses ten undergraduate degrees, including a fully online Computer Science degree, three graduate programs, and one certificate program. Graduates from our College are working in agriculture and technology companies, in healthcare fields, and as teachers all over California and across the country - and these are just a few examples of our fantastic success stories. We are especially excited to start our Mechatronics Engineering program in the fall of 2024 and will be applying for ABET accreditation with the first graduating cohort. I’m sure that you will find a major that fits your interests and career goals.

Our faculty and staff are our greatest assets. As you look through our academic programs, you’ll find that they all place high value on providing an inclusive and hands-on experience that will engage your curiosities and prepare you for a career and lifelong learning. We leverage the unique beauty and strengths of our area, including the productive agricultural region known as the Salad Bowl of the World and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. By collaborating with stakeholders across our region, we help to prepare graduates who are both capable of contributing to this local community and to our world as globally engaged citizens. Our world-class faculty love teaching and engaging students. They are also committed to involving students in research and creative endeavors that prepare them for top graduate and professional programs. Indeed, we are well known across the state for how our science courses include authentic, real research experiences. Our staff provides the support that is integral to our students’ success.

I am confident that with all that COS has to offer, you will feel a sense of belonging and purpose in the sciences at CSUMB. Please reach out to me at COS@csumb.edu if you have questions or would like more information about our programs. I look forward to interacting with you all!"
