Our JET Successes

CSUMB graduates have consistently placed with Japan Education and Training (JET) for a number of years to interact with local communities and promote internationalization at the local level. Successful applicants from CSUMB have regularly worked directly with Dr. Shigeko Sekine, Chair of World Languages and Cultures, to ready their applications and prepare for the in-person interview conducted by the Japanese Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) whose work is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations.

Six Japanese Major and Minor Students Accepted to JET for 2023!

おめでとうございます and Congratulations to six Japanese major and minor students accepted to the Japan Education and Training (JET) program for placements starting as soon as May! The students, including Judy Kim (JLC '23), Alyssa Powell (JLC '23), Steven Hickman (JLC '22), Meghan Morrison (Minor in Japanese Language and Culture '22) and Jeremy Ruiz (JLC '21), worked with Dr. Shigeko Sekine to prepare applications and conduct practice interviews during Fall 2022 with great success. We wish you all the best in your placements and opportunities to work in capacities such as Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA), or Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) across multiple locations in Japan.

JLC Majors accepted to and placed with Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program

Four students from the class of 2022 joined the fifteen JLC major students from the classes of '20 and '21 already accepted to be part of the select group of JET participants which since 1987 has brought more than 70,000 participants to Japan from around the globe! Now that pandemic restrictions have finally eased up, these alumni who had been on hold for up to a year were finally placed in new communities in Japan to gain unique cultural exchange opportunities, meet people from all around the world, and work in schools, boards of education, and government offices throughout the island nation. JLC sends a big Congratulations, がんばって, and いってらっしゃい to all these successful applicants!
