Fire log
A fire, for the purposes of HEA regulations, is defined as any instance of open flame or other burning in a place not intended to contain the burning or in an uncontrolled manner. Sparks or smoke where there is no open flame or other burning, regardless if a fire alarm is triggered, does not constitute a fire.
According to 34 C.F.R § 668.49(d), CSUMB must maintain a written, easily understood fire log that records, by the date reported, any fire that occurs in an on-campus student housing facility within the most recent 60-day period. Reported fires include fires that were already extinguished, as well as those discovered while still burning.
To ensure the safety and security of the CSUMB community, the log includes ONLY information on fires in on-campus residential facilities (to include Frederick Parks I and II) and East Campus Schoonover Park Housing.

Fire safety report
The Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R. § 668.49) requires higher education institutions to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses and is enforced by the United States Department of Education.
The regulations require colleges and universities to publish an annual fire safety report by October 1. The law requires schools make the reports available to all current students and employees and readily available to prospective students and employees upon request.
The report contains information regarding fire safety, how to report a fire, community response to a fire incident, and fire statistics for on-campus student residential facilities for the three previous calendar years.
