Kinesiology Faculty and Students Receive Accolades
October 2020 -- For his presentations at the Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness annual meeting, Dr. Eric Martin was presented with the Outstanding Research Award. Kinesiology students Rosalba Saavedra and Kevin Pilotzi qualified as finalists for multiple research submissions at the Southwest American College of Sports Medicine Undergraduate research competition.
Healthcare Heroes
April 17, 2020 -- CHSHS is counting our own among the healthcare heroes on the frontlines battling the COVID-19 global pandemic. MSPA and Nursing students are working and volunteering in our region and across the country during the ongoing crisis.
Chinatown Community Learning Center Recognized for Innovative Programming
September 25, 2019 -- The Chinatown Community Learning Center (CCLC), soon to be Community Health Engagement (CHE), was awarded recognition by the Latino Network of Monterey County during their 30th Annual Celebration of Culture and Language at Sherwood Hall in Salinas.
MSPA Students Put On Health Fair at Steinbeck Center
September 6, 2019 -- MSPA students hosted a free health fair at the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas, facilitating blood pressure checks and distributing educational health materials to community members.. Blood pressure checks were performed on 20 people over the course of 2 hours, including on President Ochoa!
Kinesiology Department Initiates New Program, "Exercise is Medicine on Campus"
Fall 2019 - The Kinesiology Department is excited to announce the launch of "Exercise is Medicine on Campus" (EIM-OC), a worldwide initiative alongside 200 other campuses aiming to integrate physical activity and healthy living into the campus culture. Kinesiology is partnering with CSUMB groups including Health and Wellness Services, Athletics, and University Personnel, to deliver fun, interactive programming for employees and students alike.
MSPA Program Receives Song-Brown Grant
July 24, 2019 – The CSUMB MSPA Program has received a grant from California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development’s (OSHPD) Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Development Training Program. The grant, totaling $72,000, will provide funding to the MSPA program to provide clinical training and education to PA students to prepare them to provide medical care to patients in underserved communities.
