Kinesiology Department Initiates New Program, "Exercise is Medicine on Campus"

Fall 2019 - The Kinesiology Department is excited to announce the launch of "Exercise is Medicine on Campus" (EIM-OC), a worldwide initiative aiming to integrate physical activity and healthy living into the campus culture. Alongside over 200 other campuses globally, Kinesiology is partnering with CSUMB groups including Health and Wellness Services, Athletics, and University Personnel, to deliver fun, interactive programming for employees and students alike. Led by Drs. Lisa Leininger, Joanna Morrissey and Ryan Luke, bi-weekly employee exercise classes focusing on circuit training and strength conditioning have been an enormous success so far, gathering staff and faculty from many different departments for a good lunchtime sweat!

The EIM-OC team has also launched a weekly "Run, Walk, & Roll" Club, open to all participants, as well as peer mentoring to students. The program now has many enthusiastic Kinesiology students involved, spreading the word by tabling at health fairs and on-campus events, as well as presenting at our annual Cocktails with the Cadaver fundraiser. The EIM-OC team plans to expand and partner with the Campus Health Center during the Spring semester to collect physical activity as a vital sign during wellness checks, as well as receive referrals.
