Mission

The mission of Community Health Engagement (CHE) is to enhance the health and wellness of low-income and homeless individuals through community health engagement and education in partnership with local service providers.

History

2006 - Beginning as the Chinatown Community Learning Center, we are established by the California State University Monterey Bay Service Learning Institute

The Homeless Chinatown Garden is established to provide CSUMB undergraduate students an opportunity to work alongside the residents of the Chinatown neighborhood in Salinas

2011 - Funding received to expand services like outreach, life skills classes, and case management

CHE becomes a field-education practice site for Master of Social Work, Public Health, and Nursing students. Collaborative partners join CHE to deliver a wide range of health and wellness services

2018 - CHE moves under organizational structure of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services

2019 - CHE moves into current home in Moon Gate Plaza

Now - Our new and improved home allows us to offer street outreach, referrals to appropriate providers, groups, housing navigation, and retention services to help the community optimize health and wellness and enhance the pathway to stable housing
