Althea SullyCole
Althea SullyCole is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and ethnomusicologist from New York City. She studied a her primary instrument, the kora, a 21-stringed West African harp, in Senegal. She is also a classically trained guitarist. As a performer, she has made appearances at the Apollo Theatre in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Royal Albert Hall in London, U.K. Her research lies at the intersections of Black studies, de- and post-colonial theory, ethnomusicology and organology. Her publications can be found in Ethnomusicology, the World of Music, the Galpin Society Journal and the American Music Instrument Society Online.
At CSUMB, Althea teaches practical courses in guitar, music production, and artistic development and academic courses, such as MPA’s Monterey Jazz Festival course.
