TLA Faculty Teaching Associates

Applications are now being accepted for 1 or 2 Faculty Teaching Associates (FTAs) in the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) for summer 2016 (dates flexible) and through the 2016/17 academic year. TLA’s mission is to support faculty and students by guiding the development of the pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment necessary to promote CSUMB’s General Education Learning Outcomes, Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs). FTAs will work closely with the TLA Director and Administrative Analyst to promote teaching and learning excellence at CSUMB by identifying, planning, and facilitating faculty advancement opportunities that align with TLA’s mission and the CSUMB Vision and Academic Plan.

Eligibility: Part-time lecturers, full-time lecturers, and tenure-line faculty.

Compensation:

  1. Summer 2016: Stipend of up to $2000 (depending on the number and availability of FTAs)
  2. Fall 2016: 2 - 4 units of course buyout (or equivalent stipend)
  3. Spring 2017: 2 - 4 units of course buyout (or equivalent stipend)

Roles & responsibilities

FTA roles and responsibilities will be collaboratively developed with the TLA Director based on the particular skills and interests of the successful candidate(s) and TLA priorities. Responsibilities may include working with the TLA Director and Administrative Analyst on any the following:

  • Planning and facilitating New Faculty Orientation and follow-up activities for new faculty.
  • Planning and facilitating opportunities for faculty advancement in teaching and learning for faculty with 0 to 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Planning and facilitating opportunities for faculty advancement in teaching and learning for faculty faculty with more than 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Facilitating, or finding appropriate individuals to facilitate, faculty teaching and learning workshops on specific topics.
  • Creating faculty advancement opportunities for lecturers.
  • Planning and facilitating a summer institute with the Center for Academic Technologies.
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with the Colleges and other units in Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Office of Inclusive Excellence that inform and advance institutional priorities for faculty advancement in teaching and learning.
  • Developing and implementing a TLA communications plan, including preparing TLA email newsletters and maintaining a TLA blog focused on current and emerging issues and approaches in teaching and learning.
  • Advancing other priorities suggested by the FTA(s), TLA Director, or others.
