Understanding Your Housing Costs

Review current housing and meal plan rates below to help you plan and budget for living on campus. Student Housing and Residential Life offers a default five-installment payment plan to support financial planning, and all housing and meal plan fees follow university tuition and fee deadlines. Listed housing rates reflect the cost per semester unless otherwise noted and include GradGuard Renters Insurance for added protection and peace of mind.

Meal plans are an optional purchase for students living in Strawberry, Promontory, or East Campus Apartments.

Housing Policies and Protections

Cal State Monterey Bay is phasing out the Rate Lock program for students admitted in Spring 2024 or later.

Students who enrolled on or before Fall 2023 may remain eligible under previous Rate Lock guidelines. For questions about eligibility or to confirm which rate table applies to you, contact Student Housing and Residential Life.

As part of living on campus at Cal State Monterey Bay, all residents are automatically enrolled in the GradGuard Renters Insurance Program. Coverage is included in housing rates.

GradGuard provides protection for personal belongings damaged or lost due to covered events such as theft, fire, smoke, vandalism, sprinkler discharge, burst pipes and other qualifying causes. The policy may also cover unintentional damage caused by fire or sprinkler discharge within your residence hall.

Covered losses are subject to a $100 deductible.

Examples of covered situations may include:

  • Theft of personal items, such as a laptop

  • Smoke damage from a fire in the building

  • Water damage caused by accidental sprinkler discharge

Students will receive additional information from GradGuard prior to move-in.

Students planning to live off campus who are interested in purchasing renters insurance may learn more directly through GradGuard.
