The map to the right depicts transect-level locations (red) for the imagery currently available in the California Undersea Imagery Archive. For reference, the boundaries of California’s marine protected areas (MPAs) are depicted in yellow. A corresponding list of available imagery can be found on the Imagery Database page.

CUIA Imagery Database

Explore the coast or search a specific region for available imagery. Clicking on one of the red features on the map will display the associated metadata table for imagery collected at that location. Attached to the table is a compressed image of a screenshot from the forward facing video recordings. Note: These screenshots are only intended to provide a rough example of the video's general visibility and lighting conditions, and may not be representative of the common habitat or species visible in the transect. Due to the nature of image compression for the map display, the screenshot may not contain the entire camera view that would be available by viewing the actual recording.
