My name is Hannah Fulton, and I graduated with a B.A. in Japanese Language & Culture, and a minor in Visual & Public Art from CSUMB in Spring 2024. I currently work as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) for the city of Takasaki in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. As an ALT, I help assist the main English teacher with English classes at my elementary school, for 1st through 6th grade. I support with lesson plans, presentations, fun activities, and games to interact with the students and help them become engaged with the English language. During any downtime, I am often helping with lesson plans and coming up with more ideas for how to utilize English in and around the school, as well as playing with the kids outside during their recess time. Studying both the Japanese language, as well as the culture and history through the WLC JLC Program allowed me to establish a solid foundation and understanding of the society and lifestyle in Japan, and this background knowledge has been essential to fall back on as I continue to adjust and adapt to living and working in a foreign place. My prior experience studying abroad as an exchange student in Kyoto for 1 year while enrolled at CSUMB really helped prepare me and gave me an inside perspective as to what I could imagine living and working in Japan in the future could look like for me. In the future, I aspire to possibly obtain a Master's degree from a university in Japan while I am working here, and I envision myself continuing to stay actively engaged in the field of International Relations.
