Research & Creative Activities
Sponsored programs
The Sponsored Programs Office is dedicated to assisting faculty and staff with pre-award and early-stage post-award activities for externally funded research, scholarship and student success programs. SPO staff work closely with sponsoring agencies, Principal Investigators (PIs), and the University Corporation at Monterey Bay to provide professional and timely assistance and direction. Sponsored Programs Office staff are also the administrative arm and operational support for the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects (CPHS), for the Faculty Incentive Grants (FIG) and CSU Student Research Competition (SRC).
Faculty incentive grants (fig) program
Offered through CSUMB's Office of Sponsored Programs, the Faculty Incentive Grants (FIG) program was established to assist pre-tenured Assistant Professors and pre-tenured Associate Professors with initiating research, scholarly, and creative activities that have the potential to become continuing programs supported by extramural funds. Funding is provided by the return of indirect costs from externally funded projects to the University Corporation at Monterey Bay and the Provost. This year a total of $50,000 is available for awards.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC)
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) is a cross-campus center that trains, supports, and engages students in undergraduate research. UROC students work on relevant and innovative research projects at CSU Monterey Bay and at regional research institutions. Their work is guided by a research mentor and is supported by extensive training in research proposal writing, presentation skills, communication skills, professionalism, and graduate school preparedness. Students are also given the opportunity to communicate their work to the academic community through presentations and publications. Taken together, these experiences prepare our students for successful academic or professional careers.
