Phuong Nguyen

Since arriving at CSUMB in 2017, Dr. Phuong Nguyen has taught classes on the multiplicity of the American experience. He believes in teaching, learning, and doing history through primary documents, scholarly texts, popular culture, and oral communication.Trained in Ethnic Studies, he places a premium on blurring the line between campus and community, whether it's encouraging students to write letters to their government, recite historical documents, conduct oral histories, or get involved for a collective cause. He is the author of "Becoming Refugee American: The Politics of Rescue in Little Saigon" (2017, University of Illinois Press).
