My teaching and research address how people use music in their everyday lives to negotiate belonging, particularly in conditions of transition and migration within the Americas. I value teaching and learning in music that activates the knowledge and resources of local music communities through varied musical activities that include performing and recording, interviewing and ethnographic practices, creating digital audio, exploring archival materials, and other forms of engagement and exchange. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Brown University.
