Sustainable Food Intern Position

Spring 2017

The Sustainability Student Intern will work closely with various campus stakeholders to support and advance sustainable food systems at CSUMB. This is a paid position working 10-20 hours per week with the Sustainability Office and Campus Dining. If you are interested please email Lacey Raak lraak@csumb.edu.

Transportation Intern Position

Spring 2017

A Transportation Outreach Coordinator is needed in the Campus Planning and Development office to support and promote the development of campus transportation planning and programming. The position regularly addresses topics of sustainability, public policy and systems management. Duties as assigned by the Senior Campus Planner will involve campus surveying, program tabling, event coordination, marketing and website design/maintenance, and data collection/analysis. The position will learn about alternative transportation by contributing to projects supporting transit, low emission vehicles, car/ride-sharing, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Native Dune Habitat Restoration At Salinas River State Beach

Saturday, February 11th, 10am-1pm

Join Return of the Natives, California State Parks and Central Coast Wetland Group in restoring native dune habitat at Salinas River State Beach! This idyllic site is home to the Elkhorn Slough State Marine Conservation Area and State Marine Reserve. We need YOUR help to maintain this critical habitat for native and migratory bird species. A great family activity that is FREE. Tools, snacks, and water provided. Bring your community service forms to get hours. We require closed-toed shoes, and recommend layers as weather may change quickly!

Directions: From Hwy 1, turn west (left if coming from South) onto Portero Rd. in Moss Landing. Follow R.O.N. event signs.

Native Species Planting at Fort Ord National Monument

Saturday, February 11th, 10am-1pm

Since 1994, Return of the Natives (R.O.N.) has worked with community volunteers and the Bureau of Land Management to restore and revitalize Fort Ord. In 2012, Fort Ord became a national monument due to its ecological and historical importance. We need volunteers to help R.O.N. and BLM restore more of this local precious natural resource. Everyone is welcome! A great family activity that is FREE. Tools, water, and great snacks provided. Wear sturdy footwear and plenty of layers. Bring your community service forms to earn hours. Please note that bikers and pedestrians will NOT be expecting car traffic - drive carefully, as trails sometimes cross the paved road.

Directions: Follow BLM Special Event signs from a) the intersection of Imjin Rd. and Reservation Rd. in Marina or b) the Lightfighter Dr. exit off of Highway 1 (main CSUMB exit). Site located 25 minute drive into Fort Ord from gate entrance.

February 16-17, Main Quad Staff, Faculty and Students are invited to join Associated Students for the pop-up thrift store on campus this spring. Pick up something new to you, or drop some old clothes off at Swap Shop. Since everything is free, then the price is just right! If you would like to organize a drop off before the date, then please contact environmental@ascsumb.org.

Oak Woodland Restoration at CSUMB

Saturday February 18th, 10am-1pm

Volunteers are invited to come and enjoy the scenery, plant native plants, and help restore the natural beauty of the Oak Woodland on California State University Monterey Bay campus! Everyone is welcome! A great family activity that is FREE. Tools, water and snacks provided.

Directions: From Highway 1, exit Lightfighter Dr. and continue straight. The Oak Woodland Restoration site is located on the corner of Lightfighter and General Jim Moore at the light. Continue to the corner of Lightfighter Dr. and Colonel Durham St. for parking across the street from Monterey College of Law. Look for "RON Special Event" signs.

Gender & Sexuality Workshop

Saturday February 25, 9:30 am-12:30 pm

Join the College of Education for the 2nd annual Social Justice Curriculum fair. Recipients will receive social justice lesson plans across K-12 levels and subject matters, followed by a talk on LGBTQ issues in the classroom by Dr. Cindy Cruz. For more information email cavaldez@csumb.edu.

Focus Group - Get Paid for Your Thoughts

March 1st 2017, 6:00pm - 8:30pm

CSUMB is dedicated to Sustainability, but we want to know what this means to our diverse student body; students who are studying a multitude of different subjects.

We invite students from ALL disciplines to participate in a focus group designed to better understand student perceptions, knowledge and interest regarding campus sustainability. You do not have to be involved with or even have an interest in sustainability to participate.

Participants will receive a free catered meal and $40 CSUMB bookstore materials gift card

The focus group will last 2.5 hours (including meal time) and 1 - 2 hours worth of prep work will be required. Please email Lacey Raak (lraak@csumb.edu), if you are interested in participating. If selected, you will then be contacted with additional information.
