CSUMB Earth Week
EARTHWEEK
Did you know? The first earth day was April 22, 1970. It was founded by Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, and was inspired by the Anti-War actions of students. Students have long been the leaders of the environmental movement, as Mr. Nelson had designed. So, it’s no wonder that forty-six years later, the students at CSUMB celebrate by hosting EarthFest- a week long celebration of the earth. The entire week is built with sustainability education and fun in mind.
MONDAY:
Due to the CFA strike there will not be any events happening.
Email: asenviromental@csumb.edu for more information.
TUESDAY:
Associated Students and OC3 have partnered up for a showing of the Blue-Gold Water Wars in the East Lounge from 4 to 6:30pm! After the showing of the film there will be food, and associated students is bringing out their bike blender! Every participant will receive a glass reusable bottle.
WEDNESDAY:
Join Associated Students (AS) and community organizations in the Main Quad from 12 to 3pm for the Earth Festival! There will be a Henna artist and photo booth in the quad, and lots of food! This year Megan Kurtz, the AS Sustainable Programming Commissioner and 2nd year Math major, has 40+ organizations coming. To help get students around to every table, she will have an "Earth Fest Bingo" sheet which will contain a question for every participating table. Find someone in a black AS polo to get your bingo sheet! There will be an opportunity drawing for a Go Pro Hero 4 Silver, and the winner will be notified after the festival via email. Bring your friends and a reusable bag because there will be lots of eco-friendly incentives for students who participate!
THURSDAY:
AS is hosting a night with Pandora Thomas! She is co-founder of the Black Permaculture Network, social and food justice advocate, profound speaker, and “employee of the earth” will be coming to the West Lounge of the Student Center 7pm to 9pm in the West Lounge. There will be an opportunity drawing for a Goal Zero Solar Panel Charger (Guide 10).
FRIDAY:
On Earth Day, AS is inviting 50 students to take it to the streets with them by cleaning up downtown Monterey, fisherman's wharf and Cannery Row! Compostable bags, gloves and a bus ride will be provided to the first 50 people who sign up here. There will also be 10 Opportunity Drawings with CSUMB colored Hydro Flasks! This is an incredible opportunity to get outside and breathe the salty fresh air, prevent waste from entering into our otters (and their ocean home), and have a blast in downtown Monterey! After you sign up Meet at the Alumni Visitors Center at 11:30 am, the bus will be leaving CSUMB at 12pm, and returning at 3:30pm.
