College of Science Van Use

This page is intended for students, staff, and faculty seeking information on driving College of Science (COS) vans.

The use of COS vans is restricted to faculty, staff, and designated personnel under direct supervision of the COS Associate Dean. They are to be used only for official state business. In general, COS vans will only be available for Science class activities. Under no circumstances are state vehicles to be used for personal transportation and special approval is needed for use for grant-funded research.

In order to drive a COS van, or a personal/rental vehicle, you must first be registered with the College of Science and the campus Defensive Driving Program (DDP). Drivers of large passenger vans (LPVs) must be at least 19 years of age and have been licensed for a minimum of three years prior to driving LPVs on official state business.

Please submit paperwork early in the semester to ensure timely driving privileges.

Keys will not be released to drivers unless all the correct driver paperwork is complete and up to date. Please contact Jeanette Favaloro at cos_defensivedrving@csumb.edu if you are unsure of your driving status.

For information on becoming certified with the University Corporation (to drive the Watershed vehicles or on grant-related work), please visit the Corporation Defensive Driving Program website. Please cc cos_defensivedriving@csumb.edu when submitting your paperwork to the University Corporation. Please note that the University (Stateside/DDP) does not accept the University Corporation driving documentation, including their defensive driving course. However, the University Corporation does accept the University (Stateside) CSU Learns Defensive Driving course. If you will be driving for both entities, it is better to complete the University (Stateside/DDP) requirements first.
