College of Business

Welcome new business librarian Joy Camp

October 23, 2023

Joy is a Senior Assistant Librarian at CSUMB's Tanimura and Antle Family Memorial Library. After attending CSU Chico for undergrad, Joy received a Juris Doctor at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (UC Law SF). Joy went on to obtain a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has been working in libraries since 2003 in a variety of positions.

Joy Camp

Joy has been with CSUMB for nearly 6 years, working behind the scenes in the library in cataloging and acquisitions, and purchasing textbooks for the library course reserve collection with funding from Graduation Initiative 2025. The goal of this initiative is to have all required textbooks costing over $100 or more, or assigned in high DFW courses, available on course reserve in print, or as ebooks, for students who may not be able to acquire the textbooks. Joy encourages COB faculty to visit the library's Course Reserves webpage to see if textbooks for their classes are on reserve and let students know. She invited faculty to let her know if there are other books or resources the library should consider adding to the general collection. Requests for new titles that would be helpful to College of Business students, including works published by COB faculty, are welcome during the annual purchasing period between August and March.

Library services highlighted

Joy highlighted a couple of the services provided by the library. In addition to library-acquired textbooks, faculty can request to have their own copies of textbooks placed on course reserve. Faculty can also submit information literacy library instruction requests, which is a service offered to enhance student success at CSUMB.

"We can provide research skills workshops for a wide range of courses," explained Camp. "[It] can be really beneficial for transfer students who may not have had a CSUMB-specific library instruction session before."

Joy will also be maintaining and working on course guides, subject resource guides, instructional videos, and asynchronous materials that will be valuable to COB students.

Course-integrated library instruction sessions are particularly helpful when they are tied to a research assignment. "If there isn't a research assignment, I'm also happy to stop by and highlight library services to students," Joy offered. "I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and working with you and your students!"

Faculty and students are invited to visit Joy's office on the third floor of the Library or reach out to her by phone or email
