Student Success Retreat 2024

On Wednesday, May 22nd in the OSU Ballroom, our campus community will work together to define student success, what success means for our students and how we can create supportive environments that remove barriers for our students to complete their degrees within all our roles and departments on campus.

The Student Success Retreat will allow us to engage in a critical dialogue where we will examine the barriers that impede student success and create a course of action that will move us toward a stronger foundation for supporting our students in achieving the educational and career goals.

The event features keynote speaker  Dr. Timothy Renick, the founding executive director of the National Institute for Student Success (NISS).  Renick has a proven track record of student success outcomes. Under his leadership at Georgia State University, the university witnessed a 70% improvement in graduation rates and the elimination of the achievement gaps for students of color and from economically-disadvantaged households.  Dr. Renick will share a “playbook” designed specifically for CSUMB, based on data that NISS has been collecting from our university to enable us to continue to make significant gains with our Graduation Initiative 2025 targets.

At the retreat, participants will hear directly from students to understand how they define success and the ways staff and faculty can better support them. Other panels will feature presentations from faculty and staff on best practices.

This professional development opportunity is free and open to all staff, faculty and MPPs in all divisions. Together we can make our Otter Raft stronger for our students and help them to find their strength.
