PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT

Contact Sponsored Programs staff for all your pre-award needs. From funding opportunity search, to submission to the sponsor, we're here to guide and assist you along your way. Follow these best practice steps to find ideal funding and prepare a competitive proposal:

Develop the Idea & Optimize Search Terms

Focus on the big picture. Talk with your colleagues, your Chair and Dean, as well as SPO. Optimize search term keywords for funding opportunity search.

Search & Find Funding Source(s)

Find funding opportunities through the search engines and other resources SPO subscribes to. Analyze funding guidelines for best fit/feasibility. Reach out to SPO and University Development (private funding) for assistance.

Plan Your Proposal

Read the RFP! Notify SPO (SPO@csumb.edu), University Development (if private funding), Chair, Dean and campus collaborators of your intent to submit. Create a timeline to deadline. Consider key budget and research compliance issues. Refresh yourself on proposal development best practices.

Prepare Your Proposal

Draft a preliminary budget with SPO. Draft the written proposal, locate the forms you need, seek input from colleagues and edit. SPO will review it with the sponsor's guidelines in mind and will assist with grant package forms.

Get Approvals

SPO (University Development if private) will r oute a final draft budget and proposal for internal review and approvals at least 5 days before the deadline. Ensure any research compliance forms/approvals are required for submission are in progress.

Finalize the Proposal & Assist SPO to Submit

Proposals are usually submitted to sponsors by SPO (University Development if private) but you must be available until official submission is complete -- in case any last-minute adjustments are required.
