Writing An NIH R15 Proposal Webinar!

This session will cover the keys to the NIH R15 mechanism and tips for writing the Specific Aims and Research Plan. The Research Enhancement Award (R15) program supports small-scale research projects to expose students to research and strengthen the research environment at educational institutions that have not been major recipients of National Institute of Health support.

R15 Award Focus and Review Criteria: Funded programs will advance biomedical research, provide research opportunities for students, and strengthen the research environment at your institution.

R15 Award amount: up to $300,000 in direct costs for 1-3 years. Grants are renewable.

R15 Deadlines: Feb. 25, June 25, Oct. 25.

Optional Activity:

Please write a 1-page draft Significance section following instructions below. Please let us know if you would be willing for the presenter to use your page for a live demonstration (highlighting important components of the Significance section).

NIH Instructions for the Significance section:

Explain the importance of the problem or critical barrier to progress that the proposed project addresses.

Describe the strengths and weaknesses in the rigor of the prior research (both published and unpublished) that serves as the key support for the proposed project.
Explain how the proposed project will improve scientific knowledge, technical capability, and/or clinical practice in one or more broad fields.
If you are willing to have your Significance page featured in the live demonstration, please return it to clopez@csumb.edu no later than March 15th. On the day of the presentation, please either bring a printed copy of your Significance section or your laptop with the document pulled up so that you can mark up your draft during the activity.
