CSUMB Receives Grant from the Hospice Giving Foundation

SEASIDE, Ca., September 19, 2019 – California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has received a grant from the Hospice Giving Foundation in the amount of $60,000 to fund a regional palliative care study. The feasibility study, led by CSUMB Department of Nursing chair and associate professor Alyssa Erikson, will plan how best to offer palliative care education in Monterey County.

CSUMB’s Selena Velasquez Receives Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement

SEASIDE, Calif., September 16, 2019 – CSUMB senior Selena Velasquez has received the 2019 California State University (CSU) Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement, the CSU’s highest recognition of student achievement. Velasquez is one of 23 awardees, one from each campus in the CSU, who was publicly recognized during a CSU Board of Trustees meeting on September 24-25, 2019.

CSU Campuses are Top Performers on Social Mobility

SEASIDE, Ca., Sept. 11, 2019 -- CSU campuses ranked among the top universities for social mobility, according to the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings for 2020. A new addition to the annual rankings, the Top Performers on Social Mobility category compares how well universities and colleges do in graduating Pell Grant-eligible students.

DoD Grant to Help Advance Fog Research at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Ca., Sept. 10, 2019 – California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) College of Science Professor Dan Fernandez has secured a Department of Defense (DoD) grant that will help fund enhanced technology used in fog collection research at CSUMB. The award, totaling $266,589, was granted through the DoD’s Research and Education Program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MSI) Equipment/Instrumentation grant.
