Rachel Aitchison
Sustainable marine management depends upon accurate species identification. To that end, Rachel Aitchison recently completed an outstanding thesis defining the subtle taxonomic differences separating species Guitarfish found in the Indian Ocean.
“Redescription of Southwestern Indian Ocean Guitarfishes Rhinobatos (Rhinopristiformes: Rhinobatidae)”
Rachel earned the Best Poster Award at the recent annual meeting of the American Elasmobranch Society. According to thesis committee member David Ebert, “The American Elasmobranch Society is the largest and oldest society dedicated to research, conservation, and education of sharks, rays, and chimaeras. It is a very prestigious award and was well deserved!”
Rachel is tidying up the work for submission to the top-notch journal “Endangered Species Research.”
Congratulations Rachel!
