The campus hosts a number of events throughout the year to raise awareness, educate and get people involved in our sustainability efforts.

An annual, free, all day look at locally relevant issues and solutions in the coordinated effort between community and university sustainability activities.

CSU Monterey Bay is among more than 600 colleges and universities that participate in RecycleMania to see who rules at recycling.

Weigh your waste

Weigh your Waste raises awareness about the high levels of leftover food Americans leave on their plates. This program provides a concrete representation of post-consumer waste and does an excellent job of making students mindful of just how much food they may be leaving behind.

Zero waste move-out

Last year volunteers helped insure 5.8 tons of recyclable materials and 1.3 tons of reusable materials were diverted from the landfill. That's 7.2 tons that would have gone to the landfill but were diverted for reuse or recycling; 1.5 tons were still sent to the landfill.

Hope Services, a 5013c non-profit that assists individuals with developmental disabilities to live and participate in their communities, will again be collecting reusable items and e-waste. Since most things are recyclable (with the exception of food contaminated items, bathroom trash, broken glass, Styrofoam and household hazardous waste) very little should be placed in the trash.
