Distinction in the Major Honors

California State University, Monterey Bay allows Departments to recognize graduating students with Distinction in the Major, based on criteria created by the Department.  

Criteria for Distinction in the Major for Human Development and Family Science majors

Academic Achievement. Students who show significant improvement during their academic careers or who have CSUMB GPAs of 3.50 or above. Department will provide this information.

Course-specific achievement. Students who in one course or across several courses in the Department distinguished themselves in their achievement, in projects, or assessment.

Personal Challenges. Students who have overcome significant obstacles to meet educational goals.

Outstanding Service and Advocacy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Students who provide service to individuals, schools, the university, or the community that is beyond course requirements and meets needs in the spirit of the mission of the Human Development and Family Science Department and/or the CSUMB Founding Vision Statement.

Distinction in the Major Honors are announced at Capstone Festival each semester.  These honors are noted on the degree and transcript.
