Locating and Obtaining Articles
Need to decipher the full journal title from an abbreviation?
The CSUMB Journals List allows you to find matching journal titles by entering word stems, e.g., "ecol mono" finds Ecological Monographs. It also will tell you whether you have access to that journal via the Library's subscription services.
Consult Abbreviations.com, which includes access to the full title of journal abbreviations.
Is the full text of the article available in the database you are searching?
Yes: If so, view the article directly on the screen and print it out if a paper copy is necessary. You may also have the option to email a copy to yourself.
No: If the full text is not directly available in the database you're searching, look for the icon and click on it to determine whether the library has the journal on the shelves or provides access to it through another full-text database. If the journal is NOT listed as being available in the library or online in a full-text database you will be offered the option to request a copy of it through the library's ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Service. A total of 10 items per week may be requested per person (including books or articles requested for other courses or projects).
PLAN AHEAD!! - it takes about one week to receive each batch of articles.
