The LS Department wishes to thank Christina Herzig for establishing and financially supporting the Karen Lynn Rezavy Award for Community Impact Scholarship since 2013. Your generous gift has provided much-needed financial support to future teachers.

From the 2020 CSUMB Donor Appreciation Website:

Christina Herzig, a CSUMB Liberal Studies alumna, established the Karen Lynn Rezavy Capstone award six years ago to recognize and support students graduating in the Liberal Studies department. Christina has been committed to supporting students becoming teachers, a big demand in the Tri-County service area. With recent changes, Christina has amended her support to now become a scholarship for those students who will graduate in Liberal Studies and continue their teaching certification education exclusively at CSUMB. Additionally, Christina has encouraged those she knows to also contribute to this fund as she recognizes the significant need of top-level teachers in the Tri-County service area.

How to Support our Students!

Providing financial support to Liberal Studies (LS) students, especially those with teaching aspirations, is a valuable investment in the future of education and is a tangible way of contributing to the overall betterment of society.

Here are some ways that donors can provide significant support LS students:

Scholarships: Establishing or donating to scholarships specifically for LS students can help alleviate financial burdens and make education more accessible, thus contributing to the strength and diversity of our local teaching force. Donors can contribute funds to create endowed or annual scholarships based on academic merit, financial need, or other criteria. A great example of this is the Karen Lynn Rezavy Award for Community Impact.

Technology and Learning Resources: Provide funding for the latest technology and learning resources, such as computers, software, and or a textbook lending library, to enhance students' academic success.

Travel and Study Abroad Opportunities: Supporting travel and study abroad opportunities can broaden students' perspectives, expose them to different cultures, and enrich their educational experiences.

Emergency Funds: Creating emergency funds can offer a safety net for students facing unexpected financial crises, enabling them to continue their studies without disruption.

By supporting Liberal Studies students at CSU Monterey Bay through these avenues, donors can make a significant and positive impact on the educational journey and future success of LS students. By supporting future educators, we ensure that well-trained and passionate teachers enter the workforce, positively impacting the learning and development of countless students.
