Conditional Admission
Conditional admission is an excellent option for students who meet the academic requirements for admission to CSUMB but need additional English language instruction before starting their degree program. Through the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP), these students will enhance their English skills until they are fully prepared to matriculate as degree-seeking students at the university.
How it Works
To apply for Conditional Admission, students should submit an application to the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) and indicate their interest in Conditional Admission during the application process. Your application will be reviewed by the Admissions office, and if you meet the academic requirements, you will receive a conditional admission letter for your desired bachelor's program. An I-20 will be issued, allowing ample time to achieve English proficiency and obtain your degree.
Once at CSUMB, your English proficiency will be assessed and you will be placed in the appropriate level of English courses (levels 1-4). After successfully passing the highest level of ALCP or meeting the English proficiency requirement for your desired program, you can formally apply to CSUMB’s bachelor's degree application process. An English proficiency waiver will be sent to the Admissions office to support your application.
Please note, acceptance to the Conditional Admission program does not guarantee admissions to a degree program at CSUMB. If you do not achieve the required level of English proficiency, you will not be admitted to the degree program. However, if you meet the proficiency requirements, you can begin your degree track the next available semester.
