Higher education and Fort Ord redevelopment
The Fort Ord Base Reuse Plan identifies CSUMB and two other higher education institutions as catalysts for the economic revitalization of the region, integral to the community-building strategy for the base.
These institutions, the University of California Monterey Bay Education, Science, and Technology Center (UC MBEST) and Monterey Peninsula College, received Fort Ord property conveyances pursuant to the Base Realignment and Closure process.
The campus is in the initial stages of working with The Michaels Organization (TMO or Michaels) to explore a potential public-private partnership (P3) for the Second Avenue Site Development.
Within the California State University (CSU) system, P3s are one category of real property partnerships, which also include partnerships with public or non-profit entities or partnerships involving campus auxiliary organizations. Like other real property partnerships, a P3 serves as an alternative delivery method to procure and finance real property development projects sponsored by the CSU or an auxiliary.
