Classes and Planning

CSU Fully Online

As a CSUMB student, you can take one online course every term through any of the CSU’s 23 campuses. A “fully online” course is any class that’s offered completely online, meaning there’s no face-to-face instruction with a professor. Through this concurrent enrollment program, there is no additional tuition cost. Students must meet eligibility criteria to participate. More information about the program is available at calstate.edu.

How to qualify for CSU Fully Online

  • You must have completed at least one term at a CSU campus as a matriculated student in a state-supported program and earned at least 12 units at that campus. Incoming transfer students will not need to meet the 12 earned units and are eligible to enroll their first semester provided all other criteria are met.
  • Your must have a GPA of at least 2.0 at your campus and you are in good standing.

  • You are or will be enrolled at your campus during the time you’re taking a fully online class through another CSU campus.

  • You must have paid all your tuition as a full-time student, or have pending financial aid that covers tuition.

How to apply

Enrollment is requested through your home campus student portal via the Enroll in CSU Fully Online link. The link will be available in your student center only during the enrollment period.

Upon selecting the link and then term, eligibility is checked and students who do not meet eligibility are prevented from requesting enrollment. Submitting a request does not guarantee enrollment.

If your request is accepted, the host campus will confirm by email and the request will appear with a status of Enrolled.

You are responsible for setting up access to the host campus learning management portal to complete the online course.

Fees & financial aid

All required fees must be paid at the time you request fully online enrollment. You will need to pay the registration fees at your home campus, or have pending financial aid to that will cover tuition, prior to submitting your enrollment request.

If you successfully enroll in a course, your home campus adds a placeholder course to your record to show the in-progress units. Those units are included in financial aid totals.

If applicable, non-resident tuition fees, professional fees, and/or material fees for the host campus units are charged by and paid to the host campus.

Prerequisite & transfer credits

Evidence of completion of course prerequisites may be required at time of enrollment (i.e., personal transcript copy or grade reports).

Once you complete the course, the course and grade information is automatically transferred to your home campus. The placeholder course stays on your record and the Fully Online credit is posted as transfer credit.

Any future official transcripts you need to provide showing your complete academic history requires official transcripts from both your home campus and host campus.
