Welcome to the CSUMB Campus Chaplaincy, a service to students, faculty and staff of CSUMB. We provide pastoral care for individuals and the campus community, interfaith and interdenominational resources, and support to faith-related clubs, programs and events at CSUMB. CSUMB Chaplains serve all students, faculty and staff regardless of religious tradition or denomination.
If you are interested in on-campus Bible study, need a speaker for your club, group or class, or are looking for someone with whom you can talk, please contact us at (831) 582-4671. If you are looking for other faith groups or traditions, we can help you, too.
Father Jon Perez is an Episcopal Priest, serving as the Vicar for Epiphany Lutheran and Episcopal Church. He comes to the Episcopal Church after a career in the corporate and non-profit worlds. His congregation is the largest social service facilitator in Marina. The congregation is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-political. Currently, he serves the Lutheran Episcopal Coordination Committee, resolving practical and theological issues between the Lutheran ELCA and Episcopal Church. Father Jon is club advisor for Out and About (GLBT campus club) and is a recipient of the Atkinson Civil Rights Award.
Pastor Clark Brown has been a campus minister at CSUMB since Fall 2009, and has served as Pastor at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Monterey for over ten years. Pastor Clark is active in ecumenical and interfaith organizations on the Monterey Peninsula and has served for many years as a chaplain at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. With a B.A. in biochemistry and a M.Div. focusing on the Bible and faith information, he believes faith and science go well together! Pastor Clark keeps music as an avid hobby and is a native of California.
The Reverend Joan Anderson is an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Church. A 2006 graduate of the Episcopal School for Deacons in Berkeley, California, with a Bachelors Degree in Theological Studies, she was ordained in 2009. Deacon Joan was assigned to Epiphany Lutheran and Episcopal Church in Marina following ordination.
The Reverend Judy Blonski (who likes to be addressed simply as “Judy”) is an ordained interfaith minister of The Interfaith Circle in Alameda, CA. She also holds a B.A. in Business Administration from James Madison University and an M.A. in Inderdisciplinary Studies from George Mason University, both in Virginia. She has been serving in a ministerial capacity since 1998 and has also taught interpersonal communications at the college level in several states.
Over the last sixteen years Judy created, organized and facilitated interfaith dialogue groups in the San Diego and Orange County areas and, most recently, in suburban Illinois. Participants from a diversity of faith traditions and philosophies including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Baha’i, Native American, Buddhist, Wicca, New Thought, Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, and Sikhism formed these groups. Participants report having grown in awareness of others’ spiritual journeys, beliefs and practices. Deep and lasting friendships continue for many within the groups. As a new chaplain joining the already existing team of the reverends Jon Perez and Clark Brown, Judy has begun work on establishing an interfaith dialogue group on CSUMB’s Seaside campus.
