Provost Irwin Discusses CSUMB Internationalization Successes at National Conference
On February 19, Provost Bonnie Irwin and Associate Dean of International Programs Ida Mansourian attended the Association of International Education Administration (AIEA) Annual Conference in Washington D.C.
Provost Irwin participated in a panel discussion titled "The Provost Perspective on Internationalization" along with Gail Simmons, Provost at Hofsteda University, and Karim Ismaili, Provost of Bridgewater State University.
All three panelists were members of the 13th cohort of American Council on Education (ACE) Internationalization Lab, 2015-2017. ACE is a two-year project aimed at developing a comprehensive internationalization plan for the entire university.
Provost Irwin addressed how the ACE Internationalization Lab project has offered CSUMB the opportunity to challenge the perceptions on the various aspects of international education, how it has pushed the college community to develop a better and deeper understanding of what “internationalization” means to CSUMB, and has helped to identify the existing strengths and resources. Most importantly, the project challenged the college community to think, reflect and collectively identify priorities and goals.
The outcome of the ACE project has been the development of six goals. Provost Irwin addressed how two of the six goals related to incorporating the global competencies in ILO.
