- Student’s information related to documentation of a disability is submitted in confidence to SDAC. It is not released to others without the student's written permission.
- In order to receive timely accommodations, students are responsible for making an appointment with SDAC prior to the start of each semester and/or promptly after determining an accommodation need throughout the semester.
- Students are responsible for requesting an appointment to meet with each of their faculty to discuss their authorized accommodations, which is detailed in an email from SDAC to the student and faculty outlining the student’s specific and individualized accommodation for the current semester.
- The student is responsible for following all SDAC procedures and meeting its timelines, communicating with their faculty and advisors to confirm accommodations, and to schedule appointments for clarification or extra support.

- While students have a right to accommodations that provide equal access, the accommodations are not intended to fundamentally alter the course, the required technical standards or learning outcomes.
- While faculty have the right not to alter their course due to an accommodation, they do have the responsibility to contact SDAC within 5 business days of receiving the accommodation letter (sent via email directly to faculty) to address any questions on how to implement an accommodation.
- Faculty DO NOT have a right to access diagnostic or evaluative information regarding a student’s disability. Faculty should not request nor receive medical documentation.
- Faculty have a right to protect the content of their courses when recording lectures is an authorized accommodation. Both the student and faculty must sign the Recording Lectures Agreement and submit it to SDAC. This agreement protects the faculty’s course content by ensuring the student will only use recordings for personal use and not share with others.
- Additional accommodation support is available through the Center for Accessible Technology, the Test Center, as well as the faculty's department should the accommodation necessitate additional resources.
- Faculty should make themselves available to meet (in person, on-line or by telephone) with students who request to review their accommodations for the semester.
- Faculty are responsible to contact SDAC within 5 business days of receiving the accommodation email from SDAC to address any questions on how to implement an accommodation.
- To support students toward remaining on course to complete the class requirements, faculty are responsible for the timely and thorough fulfillment of all accommodations.
- Faculty are responsible for continued follow through on specific accommodations, such as the scheduling of ASL Interpreters and live Zoom captioning, including providing 3-weeks advance notice to SDAC regarding the captioning of pre-recorded course materials.
- Faculty who have deaf or hard of hearing (DHOH) students in their courses should notify SDAC immediately if they make any changes to syllabus schedule and location, as interpreters or captioners working in-person must be notified ahead of the revised date, time and location.
- In a lab situation, if a student needs written instructions and/or diagrams of activities in order to master the processes and the learning objectives, the faculty is responsible to provide this additional support.
- Faculty should inform any student who requests a course accommodation, without first acquiring an accommodation letter, to contact the SDAC.
- Faculty should also review the student and faculty responsibilities with the student to confirm understanding of the collaborative relationship in fulfilling the course accommodation and course requirements.
- Faculty must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and FERPA, both of which protect the confidentiality of students with disabilities. A breach of confidentiality may subject CSUMB and/or faculty to liability. Faculty, staff, and service providers are prohibited from releasing information regarding a student's disability without the student’s written consent, except when subpoenaed or demanded by CSU Counsel. To ensure confidentiality:
- Meet with students to discuss their needs during office hours or other private time.
- Request the student’s permission to discuss needs via email and to talk with appropriate employees about how to accommodate.
- Faculty are responsible for making their course syllabus available at least 6 weeks prior to the semester, which should include the sample syllabus statement. The syllabus may also specify a date by which the faculty would prefer students with an accommodation to contact them, and a reminder to promptly notify the faculty if new, formally unforeseen accommodations come up throughout the semester.
- Faculty are to make an announcement during the first class that accommodations are available for eligible students with disabilities through appointments at SDAC.
- When a student presents a note-taking accommodation to the faculty, it is their responsibility to announce at the start of the semester if any students would be able to serve as peer note-sharers and ask them to contact SDAC.
