Faculty request for leave of absence without pay
Requests for a personal or professional leave of absence without pay must be submitted in writing using the Request for Leave of Absence without Pay form. The Vice President for Academic Affairs will make the final decision after reviewing the request and recommendations from the Dept/Div/School Chair and College Dean. A faculty unit employee requesting a leave of absence without pay is advised to become fully aware of the conditions of the leave. Please refer to Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for additional information about eligibility periods and other aspects of leaves of absence without pay.
Personal leave
- Full-time faculty unit employees or less than full-time tenured faculty unit employees are eligible. Less than full-time temporary faculty unit employees may be granted a leave of absence of a short duration.
- A personal leave of absence without pay may be for purposes of unpaid sick leave, outside employment, maternity/paternity, family care leave, or other purposes of a personal nature.
- A faculty member on personal leave without pay does not accrue service credit toward probation, sabbatical eligibility, difference in pay eligibility, service salary increase eligibility, or seniority except as provided in Articles 22.22 and 22.23.
Professional Leave
- Full-time faculty unit employees or less than full-time tenured faculty unit employees are eligible. Less than full-time temporary faculty unit employees may be granted a leave of absence of a short duration.
- A professional leave of absence without pay may be for purposes of research, advanced study, professional development, or other purposes of benefit to CSUMB.
- A faculty member on professional leave without pay shall, when otherwise eligible, accrue service credit toward probation, sabbatical eligibility, difference in pay eligibility, service salary increase eligibility and seniority.
- Such accrual of service credit shall be forfeited when it is determined that the conditions of the leave are not met.
