Global Engagement

We partner with universities and recruitment services, facilitate opportunities for our faculty and staff to research abroad, and bring international scholars to our campus.

International Partnerships

CSUMB is proud to have valuable partnerships with universities and recruitment services all over the world. Our partnership types include:

  • Exchange partners: a bilateral exchange where CSUMB students may study at a partner university while paying CSUMB’s tuition and students from those institutions who are nominated for exchange may study at CSUMB and pay their home university tuition.
  • Articulation partners: allows students from those institutions to easily transfer to CSUMB to complete their bachelor’s degree.
  • Recruitment services: provides a service to connect international students to CSUMB
  • Study abroad partners: study abroad on a fee-paying basis depending on the length (weeks, semester or year)

Faculty and Staff Global Opportunities

The International Programs Office offers support and guidance for faculty and staff to participate in professional development at partner universities worldwide. We aid in identifying resources and funding available to support initiatives and research in non-U.S. settings.

These opportunities include:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Workshops
  • Fulbright
  • International fellowships

J-1 Scholars and Professors

CSUMB is a U.S. Department of State-approved host for international visiting professors and scholars through the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, whose objective is to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges.”

If you are interested in joining CSUMB as a visiting professor or scholar, we encourage you to research our various academic departments and see if there is a good fit for you. If you are a prospective visiting scholar or professor, your host department will be your primary point of contact at CSUMB. Your host department, in cooperation with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), will be responsible for facilitating immigration processes and undertaking several other obligations, including:

  • Documenting that the scholar is fully qualified to participate in the proposed activity.
  • Completing immigration sponsorship paperwork.
  • Advising the scholar, before and after arrival in Monterey, of the department’s available services and facilities (e.g., housing, transportation, office or lab space, etc.).
  • Notifying the ISSS in advance of changes to the scholar’s start or end date, financial support, position title, workplace location, etc.

Specific requirements apply to the J-1 immigration status that must be met to ensure compliance with federal immigration regulations.
