Mentorship
At Cal State Monterey Bay we leverage our inspiring coastal environment and our inclusive and supportive community to connect students with opportunities to work alongside our faculty, staff and community leaders. These professionals serve as mentors to our students and provide opportunities to engage in real-world applications of what is learned in the classroom. Throughout programs and this mentorship support, students have the opportunity to realize a personalized education supported by authentic connections with professions in the field. Examples of our programs are highlighted here for exploration, but many more exists in early every field and operative type, weather that be research, career shadowing, community engagement, or other development and enlightenment opportunities.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center
UROC engages students of all majors in undergraduate research to build students’ educational ownership, intellectual vibrancy, and scholarly identity. We achieve this through mentored undergraduate research; rigorous, authentic, and calibrated scholarly activities; and the development of social capital. In this program, students can conceptualize their own research questions and work with faculty mentors to create innovative approach to problems and uncover and publish finds on new aspects of important issues and topics. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside faculty and graduate students of a numerous research projects already underway.

African Heritage Faculty and Staff Association Mentorship Program
A service of the Helen Rucker Center for Black Excellence, the CSUMB African Heritage Faculty and Staff Alliance offers small group mentoring opportunities for students of African heritage. The program assists students in create an immediate sense of belonging, socializing, and connecting with other students of African descent in the student’s field of study that shares an appreciation for your culture and can assist in creating solutions for your educational, personal, and professional challenges.
