Alpha Kappa Alpha

The Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated chartered on April 16, 2017, at CSUMB had its humble beginnings as the vision of nine college students on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Since then, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of over 300,000 college-trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership that is both domestic and international in its scope. As Alpha Kappa Alpha has grown, it has maintained its focus in two key areas: the lifelong personal and professional development of each of its members; and galvanizing its membership into an organization of respected power and influence, consistently at the forefront of effective advocacy and social change that results in equality and equity for all citizens of the world.

Associated Students

Make a difference and have a voice on campus! Gain leadership and professional experiences. Network with campus administrators and other student organizational leaders. Be an advocate in representing student concerns on university committees, as well as, local and statewide legislative bodies. Compensation includes a monthly stipend. Apply for an elected position with Associated Students (AS), your student government.

Black Students United

Black Students United provides a voice for Black students, promotes social and cultural awareness in the community, improves and maintains relationships between Black students and students of other ethnic backgrounds, and takes an active part in the activities of other ethnic backgrounds, and of the University. BSU is a diverse club that offers membership to any race.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

Delta Sigma Theta (ΔΣΘ) is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. The sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominantly African American college-educated women. This includes over 900 chapters located in the U.S., England, Japan (Tokyo & Okinawa), Germany the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea. The sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and engagement to create its national programs. Delta Sigma Theta is the eighth sorority to be chartered at CSUMB; the first historically African American sorority established on campus. The Upsilon Xi chapter was chartered on April 27, 2014, with seven members; Diamond Gaskins, Shiyla Goodie, Nancy Her, Bridgette Johnson, Tyler Posey, Courtney Thomas, and Tiffany Williams.

First Gen Friends Club

The purposes of this organization are to promote diversity, unity and create another support system for students that identify as first-gen. Some of our goals are to spread the knowledge to incoming students about the services that the school offers, create an educational, supportive and welcoming environment to first-generation students, gain confidence and create leadership opportunities for others, and lastly to give back to our community through community service.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity

Kappa Alpha Psi (KAΨ) was founded on January 5th, 1911 on the campus of Indiana State University. The Rho Beta Chapter was founded on the CSUMB campus on June 5th, 2011. The fraternity was created to form a brotherhood of African American Males to ban together and promote leadership and achievement in all fields of human endeavors. Since then Kappa Alpha Psi has expanded to include members from different backgrounds who share the same values as their great founders. The fraternity has over 125,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in every state of the United States, and international chapters in the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Japan, U.S. Virgin Islands, Nigeria, and South Africa. Kappa Alpha Psi sponsors programs providing community service, social welfare, and academic scholarship through the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation and is a supporter of the United Negro College Fund and Habitat for Humanity. Kappa Alpha Psi is a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The fraternity is the first predominantly African-American Greek-letter society founded west of the Appalachian Mountains still in existence and is known for its “cane stepping” in NPHS organized step shows.
