About Us

The Facilities Management Department (FMD) is a top-performing service provider that enhances the customer experience; and we ensure that the campus environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained. FMD is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance and repair of university facilities and grounds, and consists of 11 critical and interdependent support teams:

Teams

Campus Planning

Campus Planning initiates and develops projects, plans and studies needed to create the physical space required to implement CSUMB’s academic mission. Staff regularly collaborate with campus and community stakeholders in order to redevelop the campus and the former Fort Ord into a vibrant and thriving community. Fundamental to our work is the integration of the three tenets of sustainability, identified by the campus as they relate to physical space as: placemaking, stewardship and partnership.

Space Planning

Space Planning is responsible for the allocation and tracking of all spaces within state-owned facilities. Part of this responsibility includes working with departments to better utilize existing spaces using state mandated standards. The team also oversees the procurement of furniture, signage and ergonomic furnishings.

Design

Design includes management of architectural services for renovations or new construction projects. The University Architect oversees the major/minor capital project design and overall campus development to ensure that it complies with the Master Plan, SUAM, ADA and regulatory building codes and guidelines.

Construction

Construction provides leadership and support for the construction phase of capital projects. This team provides plan and constructability review, initial estimates, facilitates agency approvals and implements Chancellor’s Office policy and procedures for construction administration of projects. This includes acting as a liaison between campus, Chancellor's Office, and external participants to implement the successful completion of these projects.

Maintenance

Maintenance staff work daily to maintain the campus's academic and classroom facilities. Our team is a mix of multi-skilled, multi-talented trades personnel who are experienced in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, locksmithing, metal working. The Building Service Engineers are responsible for maintaining all mechanical equipment related to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration trades.

Janitorial

UG2 provides janitorial service to the entire campus. Services include but are not limited to: Restroom Cleaning, Floor and Carpet Care, Office/Classroom Cleaning.

Pest Control

The University contracts with pest control companies to provide pest control to buildings and grounds.

Grounds and Landscaping

Brightview landscaping provides grounds and landscaping service to the campus. Their services include trimming and maintaining trees, shrubs, bushes, lawns, irrigation systems and picking up litter.

Waste Management

Waste management services are provided by Greenwaste.

Shipping and Receiving

Shipping and Receiving provides event support, moving and mail delivery for campus staff.

Energy and Utilities

Campus Energy and Utilities consist of water, sewer, sewer processing, electricity, natural gas, hot water and chilled water. They manage relationships with suppliers, negotiate and administer contracts and service agreements; plan the expansion and maintenance of university owned utility systems; measure and account for energy use at the campus and building level; track and improve energy efficiency at the campus and building level though operational improvements and retrofit projects; participate in the design the utility consuming systems of new buildings and assist in their startup and operations.
