ESTP Student Recently Recognized as the School of Natural Sciences Outstanding Woman Geoscientist

Emma Haines, a senior ESTP student, was recently recognized as the School of Natural Sciences' Outstanding Woman Geoscientist. This annual award was given by the Association for Women Geoscientists, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter.
The Association for Women Geoscientists works to promote leadership in the geosciences through encouraging the participation of women in the geosciences; assisting with the exchange of educational, technical and professional information; and enhancing the professional growth and advancement of women in the geosciences.
Emma caught the eye of two of her capstone professors for her independent research outside of the classroom. Using data loggers and 10 years of creek walk data from the Santa Lucia Conservancy, Emma is working to develop a dryness index for non-perennial rivers. Her hard work and dedication to this research project was one of the reasons she was nominated to receive this award.
When asked to provide advice for students with similar aspirations, Emma responded
Just put yourself out there. There is no harm in talking to others and asking questions. You will never know what you can gain from a conversation, if you never start one.
