Intramural FAQs
CSUMB's Intramural Sports program provides CSUMB students, faculty, staff, and alumni the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports. Intramural Sports offers leagues and tournaments in traditional sports such as basketball, softball, soccer, and volleyball, as well as nontraditional activities such as dodgeball, capture the flag and disc golf. The mission of the Intramural Sports program is to establish friendships and encourage participation through organized recreation while practicing exceptional leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Are you under the age of 18?
Students who are under the age of 18 are not able to sign the release of liability. Please send your parent a copy of the Intramural Sports Release of Liability and have you parent/guardian sign the wavier on your behalf. Once you've received the signed wavier, please submit it to the Recreation Service Desk located in the Student Center - East Wing.
It is free for all CSUMB students, faculty, staff, and alumni!
Learning how to Register
- Go to IMleagues to begin.
- Fill out all categories as accurately as possible
- Select the "Create an Account" link
- All new participants must create an account using your CSUMB Email.
How to sign up for an Intramural Sport
- Creating a team as a Team Captain
- Log in to your IMleagues account
- Scroll down to the correct semester & year and select your team
- Scroll down the page and click on the Sports link just below the Title of the page
- Leagues may vary in participant requirements or skill level so please choose carefully
- After clicking your preferred sport, you will be taken to the league page where you can select the Create a Team tab
- After clicking this tab captains may fill out all sections to create a team
- All team names are reviewed by Intramural Staff and can be changed at any time if deemed un appropriate
- After a team is created a Captains can invite members to their team by clicking the "Invite Members" link on the team page. Any invited members must accept the invitation to be joined to your team.
- If they've already registered on IMLeagues: search for their name, and invite them.
- If they haven't yet registered on IMLeagues: scroll down to the “Invite by Email Address” box, and input their email address.
- Creating a team as a Free Agent
- After clicking the Free Agent you will be taken to another screen and asked to fill out a participant waiver form.
- Participants will need to apply these steps to ALL leagues they wish to join if they wish to participate in more then one sport
- It is also encouraged to provide some information about yourself or previous experience with the chosen sport in the additional comments section. Team Captains will see this information and can use it to determine if they want to add you on their team
Joining a Team
- Email Invite
- Future participants may receive an email invitation from a team captain to play. Every participant must register and complete a waiver in order to be accepted onto a team
- In some rare cases invitations may be sent to your spam folder. If you are in communication with a team captain and are not receiving an email invitation, you may want to check your spam folder or confirm that the email you provided is correct

- Invitation through IMLeagues
- If a participant already has an account created on IMLeagues, their invitations will be found on the top right section of their screen.
- Click your name and a drop down menu will appear with a tab labeled requests.
You can register as a free agent and we will place you on a team or if you have a small group of friends that want to sign up as a team, but you don’t have enough for a full team, just let us know when you register and we will add more players to your team.
When you register as a free agent, the last question will ask if you for a teammate request; this is where you list any friends you wish to play with. We will be sure to put you and your friend on the same team.
- Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, Dodgeball and other indoor sport competitions are held at the Otter Sports Center on the corner of 2nd street and Inter-Garrison Road.
- Softball competitions are being held at the CSUMB Baseball Field, which is in the same parking lot as the CSUMB running track, the swimming pool, and softball field.
- Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer, Capture the Flag, and other outdoor sport competitions are held at the Student Recreation Field.
Yes! Your OtterCard is used to verify your eligibility as a student, staff, or faculty. Once we have verified your eligibility, you can bring any form of photo ID. Alumni do not need to have a OtterCard; regular photo ID will suffice. No OtterCard, no playing. If you lost your ID card, you can get a new one at the Campus Service Center (Bldg 47).
All schedules are posted through IMLeagues.com. Once you are on the roster, you can view your team's schedule for the entire semester. If you have trouble viewing or finding your teams schedule, please email intramurals@csumb.edu.
Each team will receive a sportsmanship rating from the officials and field supervisor at the conclusion of the game. They are based on a 4 point scale, 4 being the highest. In order to advance to the playoffs, teams must accumulate an average sportsmanship rating of 3.0. More information can be found in the button below.
Intramural Sports is in need of energetic and dedicated employees to join the Intramural Team. Job Descriptions can be found on the IM Staff portion of the website. Flexible, fun, and no experience needed! Just come out to one of our official's information meetings which are held early in the semester.
Players can be added to your rosters on-site at the game or in the intramural sports office. Make sure your players have met the eligibility requirements and have their CSUMB username! You have up until the third week of play for major leagues and second week of minor leagues to add an eligible participant to your roster!
Champions will win Intramural Recreation merchandise like dry fit shirts and logo'd socks for their players who are listed on the official playoff roster and meet the playoff requirements.
You must be dressed appropriately to participate in your sport; no sandals, open toed shoes, no bare feet, no metal cleats. For all sports that are being played at the Otter Sports Center, non-marking athletic shoes are required. For flag football you MUST wear shorts with NO pockets. turning the shorts inside out or taping over the pockets will not be allowed. Please do not put on your shoes until after you get to the gym. We are trying to preserve Sports Center basketball surface.
