The Institute for Innovation and Economic Development (iiED) at Cal State Monterey Bay introduces the Global Innovation Scholars Lab, an international initiative designed to:

The Global Innovation Scholars Lab supports meaningful scholarly activities that contribute to CSUMB’s research excellence and global engagement efforts, bringing together faculty, researchers, and thought leaders from around the world.
Program Objectives
The Global Innovation Scholars Lab aims to:
- Recruit up to 10 international visiting scholars per semester
- Facilitate collaborative research between CSUMB faculty and international scholars
- Support CSUMB’s globalization strategy and institutional research goals
- Deepen relationships with international partner institutions
- Enrich the global cultural and academic life of the CSUMB community

2025 International Responsible Business and Social Impact (IRBSI) Symposium
The IRBSI Symposium is an annual international forum co-hosted by the iiED, the College of Business at CSUMB, and the Sinyi Research Center for Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility at National Cheng-Chi University. Each year, it brings together global voices to explore how emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, can drive social, environmental, and economic progress through research, student innovation, and international collaboration.

2023 CSUMB International Responsible Business and Social Impact Symposium fosters collaboration on campus and across the Pacific
The inaugural 2023 International Responsible Business and Social Impact (IRBSI) Symposium at CSUMB aimed to celebrate and cultivate a culture of impactful research, education, and global collaboration. Developed by Dr. Jenny Lin and Dr. Eric Tao, the event emphasized interdisciplinary partnerships and featured a virtual panel with experts from Taiwan and the U.S., exploring ESG and responsible AI. It also included a vibrant in-person student poster session and a faculty panel on wellbeing and social impact. Rooted in CSUMB’s commitment to the UN PRME initiative, the Symposium marked a meaningful step toward fostering responsible, globally connected scholarship.

Highlights from the 2024 International Responsible Business Social Impact Symposium
The 2024 International Responsible Business and Social Impact (IRBSI) Symposium, held virtually on December 3, brought together over 300 participants to explore the transformative power of AI in healthcare, renewable energy, and ESG. Centered on the theme “Tech for Good,” the event featured thought leaders and scholars from around the world. Speakers shared cutting-edge insights on smart healthcare, big data in health management, ESG data governance, clean energy, and AI-driven climate solutions. Organized by Dr. Jenny Lin and Dr. Eric Tao, the symposium also debuted the "Innovation for Social Impact Competition," recognizing CSUMB student ventures. The event was co-hosted by CSUMB’s iiED and NCCU’s Sinyi Research Center, strengthening international collaboration around responsible technology.

2026 Association for Language Awareness Conference
The International Association for Language Awareness – Heritages, Languages, Ecologies – 2026 Conference will take place June 22–25, 2026 at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies (MIIS) in Monterey, California. ALA, established in 1992, hosts biennial global conferences dedicated to Language Awareness, defined as “explicit knowledge about language, and conscious perception and sensitivity in language learning, language teaching and language use” (ALA 2025). The 2026 conference is organized by a consortium of volunteers from CSUMB, MIIS, DLI, and other institutions. Proposal submissions open July 1, 2025 and close September 15, 2025.
International Visiting Scholars Program
Faculty Research Matching
Each scholar will be paired with CSUMB faculty members based on shared research interests. This ensures purposeful collaboration and encourages high-quality scholarly output across disciplines.
J-1 Visa Sponsorship
The program supports international participation through J-1 visa sponsorship, provided in partnership with the CSUMB International Programs Office. Scholars will receive the necessary documentation and support throughout their stay.
Housing and Campus Integration
CSUMB will assist scholars in securing on-campus or off-campus housing and provide guidance to ensure a smooth transition to campus and community life.
Contribution to CSUMB and Associated Communities
