Empowering young learners. That, more than anything, is at the heart of our mission at the Center for Reading Diagnosis and Instruction.
A vital part of the Department of Education and Leadership at Cal State Monterey Bay, the Reading Center functions as a center for reading assessment, instruction, research, and professional development in terms of reading and literacy development.
The Center is a training site for pre-service students enrolled programs within the Department of Education and Leadership, and provides reading diagnostic and tutorial services to students from kindergarten to high school.
Our readers make measurable progress. The young readers we work with achieve an average weekly growth of 1.55 words per minute. Over the course of a single semester, readers experience an average 43.19% increase in words read per minute.
“When our young students are succeeding and we see in the data that they’re making huge gains, you know that you are engaged in meaningful work and making a difference.”
