Welcoming and Supportive Living Options

Cal State Monterey Bay is committed to fostering a welcoming, supportive and inclusive residential community. Inclusive Housing options are available to any student who wishes to apply, and we welcome individuals of all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, abilities and identities.

Accessible Housing

Students who require housing accommodations due to a medical, psychological, hearing or other documented disability may request support through a collaborative process with the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC). Together, we work to identify living arrangements that align with approved accommodations and support student success.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Our gender-inclusive housing community, Lavender Living, provides an affirming environment where students can live authentically and build meaningful connections. Lavender Living celebrates the diversity of our campus and promotes respect, understanding and mutual support among residents.

Disability and Accessibility Housing

Cal State Monterey Bay is committed to providing equitable access to on-campus living. Students who require housing accommodations due to a medical, psychological, hearing or other disability may request support through a collaborative process between Student Housing and Residential Life and the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC).

How to Request Housing Accommodations

Step 1: Connect with SDAC

Submit a new accommodation request or renew your existing accommodations with SDAC, then schedule a meeting with an SDAC advisor to discuss your needs.

Step 2: Apply for Housing

Log in to your MyHousing Portal and complete your housing application, responding carefully to questions related to accommodation preferences.

Step 3: Placement Review
After your materials are reviewed, SDAC and Student Housing and Residential Life will work together to identify housing that aligns with your approved accommodations, based on availability.

Emotional Support Animals

Students requesting approval for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) should review the housing pet policy and complete the required application on the Pet Application webpage.

Plan Ahead

Accommodation requests are subject to availability. Because SDAC receives a high volume of requests, especially during peak housing periods, submitting your materials early increases the likelihood of securing housing that meets your needs.

Apply for Lavender Living

Step 1: Apply for Housing

Step 2: Select Lavender Living

On the “Theme Communities” page, select Lavender Living as your top preference.

On the Lavender Living application page, indicate that you would like to live in Lavender Living and confirm your selection as prompted.

Step 3: Complete Your Application

Submit your housing application to be considered for placement.

Current residents participating in room selection may choose a gender-inclusive space if available.

Lavender Living placements are based on availability. Applying early increases the likelihood of securing a space.

Roommate Groups

Students who select Lavender Living may participate in roommate groups. All group members must request and accept one another in the housing system before room selection.

Lavender Living is intended for students who prefer a gender-inclusive environment or who feel more comfortable living with individuals of a different sex or gender identity, or who do not subscribe to the gender binary. It is not designed as housing for romantic couples.

Be sure your roommate group is fully confirmed in the system prior to room selection to maximize your opportunity to secure a space together.
