At Cal State Monterey Bay, we are committed to providing an inclusive living experience for all students. 

Accessible Housing

Many of our residence halls, suites and apartments are specifically reserved for students with accessibility needs. If you require housing accommodations due to a medical, psychological, hearing or other documented disability, we will work with the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) to support your living needs.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Our gender-inclusive housing community, Lavender Living, celebrates the diversity of our campus and encourages respect, understanding and mutual support among all who live here.

How to Apply for Inclusive Housing

Step 1: Start with the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC). 

  • Submit an application for accommodations or renew your accommodations with SDAC.
  • Schedule a meeting time with an SDAC advisor.

Step 2: Apply for Housing

  • Log in to your MyHousing Portal and complete your housing application. 
  • Be sure to answer the preference questions related to your accommodation needs.

Step 3: Housing Placement

Once your application(s) are processed, SDAC and Student Housing and Residential Life will work together to find a space that meets your accommodation needs, based on availability.

Remember: Apply early!
While we do our best to accommodate requests, housing accommodations are not guaranteed, and availability is limited. Applying early gives you the best chance of securing a space that meets your needs.

Step 1: Apply for Housing 

Log in to your MyHousing Portal and complete your housing application.

Step 2: Select Lavender Living

  • On the “Theme Communities” application page, choose Lavender Living as your top preference.
  • On the “Lavender Living” application page, select “Yes, I would like to live in Lavender Living” and enter your student number to acknowledge your selection.

Step 3: Complete Your Application 

  • Finish your housing application to secure your spot.
  • Current residents who participate in Reservation Days will have the opportunity to select a gender-inclusive space.

Other Details: What About Roommates?

Yes! You can participate in Roommate Groups if you select Lavender Living.

  • All students in the group must request and accept each other within the system before room selection.
  • Keep in mind: Lavender Living is not intended for romantic couples but rather for students who feel more comfortable sharing a room, suite or apartment with individuals of a different sex or gender or who do not subscribe to the gender binary.

Plan ahead! Make sure your roommate group is fully set up before room selection to secure a space together.
