Update Your Sign-In Verification Method

Beginning March 1, 2027, text message multifactor authentication will no longer be available for CSUMB accounts.

If you currently use a text message to verify your sign-in, set up Okta Verify or another supported authentication method before the deadline. Completing this change early gives you time to confirm that your new method works and get help if needed.

What Is Okta Verify

Okta Verify It is our recommended authenticator app. It lets you approve sign-ins or generate a verification code. It works both using Wi-Fi and cellular data.

You should only download the app from the Apple or Google Play stores.

Who Needs To Take Action?

Anyone using text message as your CSUMB authentication verification method.

Review your sign-in method if you currently use a text message to verify your identity when accessing your CSUMB accounts. If you already use Okta Verify or another supported authentication method, no action on your part is needed.

IT can attend your department meetings and give a 10-15 minute talk about Okta Verify and transitioning over to it. Additionally we are happy to present more of a department specific workshop to run through a hands-on workshop in your area.

What To Bring To Assisted Help Sessions

If you attend a help workshop or appointment, please bring the device you plan to use for authentication (usually a smartphone or tablet) and be prepared to log into your CSUMB account.

Beginning March 1, 2027, text message authentication will no longer be available as a multifactor authentication method for any CSUMB account.

We are transitioning away from text message verification to more secure sign-in methods that better protect your account. Text messaging is not considered secure because messages are easily intercepted by other parties. Okta Verify is a great way to prove that you are the human trying to log into your account.

Okta Verify is recommended for most users. It can approve sign-ins and generate a verification code.

Not necessarily. You can also use Okta Verify on a tablet.

If you cannot or do not wish to use a personal smartphone or table, schedule an appointment with IT to review approved alternatives by contacting mfahelp@csumb.edu. 

This transition only affects customers who use text message verification. If you already use another supported method such as the Okta Verify app, no migration action is needed on your account.

You can contact the Technology Help Desk and we can help you reset your MFA and walk you through setting up Okta Verify again.

Text message authentication will no longer be available as a verification method. If you have not transitioned over to Okta Verify, you may have difficulty accessing your CSUMB account and may need contact the Technology Help Desk for assistance.
