Justice, Equity and Sustainability Training (JEST)
The Justice, Equity and Sustainability Training Program is an opportunity for the campus community to learn and engage with two topics integrated into our campus values and culture: Inclusive Excellence and Sustainability.
Learning outcomes for the JEST program include:
- General awareness of both sustainability and inclusive excellence work at CSUMB
- Understanding of the intersectional nature of this work
- Access and connection to the activities and effort on campus to support this work
Components of the JEST Program include the following:
Racial Justice and Equity Training
EquityConnect® is for employees of colleges and universities that are members of the USC Race and Equity Center’s alliances, equity institutes, leadership academies, and other partnerships. It includes video recordings and assets from eConvenings, as well as other downloadable racial equity resources. Topics include Embedding Racial Equity in Workplace Practices and Policies to Recruiting and Hiring Faculty of Color. Register and watch one webinar.
Interracial Dialogue Equity Accountability (IDEA) Program
The goal of the asynchronous curriculum is to help participants understand the historical context of race in the United States, particularly in higher education, and the steps needed to engage in action to dismantle oppressive systems. Topics will also include conceptual knowledge of dialogue. The accountability portion of the IDEA work will be included in the online curriculum with an end-of-course deliverable that the participant can share during a check in with the OIE. Contact Drs. Jennifer Lovell (jlovell@csumb.edu) and Nizhoni Chow-Garcia (nchow-garcia@csumb.edu) for more information.
Watch and reflect on the following videos and resources:
- An overview of our Inclusive Sustainability Plan and our Core Goals (16 minutes).
- As well as an overview of Sustainability and Social Justice (30 minutes).
- Review the Inclusive Sustainability Plan and identify actions to take based on your skills, interests, and unique sphere of influence.
Attend and participate in 3 campus events focused on Environment, Sustainability, Equity, Justice and/or Inclusion.
